Built around one question:
what actually needs to change?
Thornfeld is a consulting practice in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. We help leadership teams think more clearly about innovation, R&D direction, and how technology fits their strategic situation.
Back to HomeHow Thornfeld came to exist
Thornfeld was founded in Cyberjaya with a narrow focus: helping organisations in Malaysia work through the structural and strategic questions that sit behind innovation and technology decisions. Not the tools, not the trends — the underlying organisation design questions that determine whether any initiative actually sticks.
The practice grew from a recognition that most consulting work in this space either moves too fast — producing recommendations before the real problem is properly understood — or stays too abstract, leaving teams with frameworks that look sensible on paper but do not translate to their specific situation.
Our approach is different by design. We take time to understand how decisions are made inside your organisation before suggesting anything. The outputs we produce are built for your context, not adapted from a generic model. And we stay focused on a small number of service areas where we have genuine, tested methodology — rather than claiming to do everything.
We are based at 9 Persiaran Multimedia in Cyberjaya, Selangor, and work with organisations across the Klang Valley and beyond. Our clients include private-sector companies in technology, manufacturing, and financial services, as well as government-linked entities working on strategic development initiatives.
Our Mission
To help Malaysian organisations make more considered decisions about innovation and technology — by producing structured, honest, usable analysis rather than persuasive presentations.
Our Approach
Every engagement starts with listening. We do not arrive with solutions pre-formed. We diagnose, document, and deliver outputs that reflect the actual situation — including the parts that are inconvenient.
Our Values
Precision over polish. Documented outputs over verbal advice. Focused expertise over broad claims. Honest framing over optimistic projections. These are not slogans — they are the conditions under which we do our best work.
The people behind the work
David Lim
Leads client engagements and oversees methodology. Background in organisational strategy and technology assessment, with over a decade working with companies across Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
Nurul Farhan
Responsible for landscape research, data synthesis, and the preparation of client-facing deliverables. Brings depth in technology scanning and portfolio evaluation to every engagement.
Rajan Krishnan
Manages the day-to-day flow of each engagement — schedules, communications, and documentation. Ensures that timelines are met and that nothing falls between the gaps.
How we maintain quality
Structured Diagnostic Process
Every engagement begins with a documented diagnostic phase — not assumptions. We define the problem clearly before any analysis begins.
Confidentiality as Standard
Client information is handled with strict confidentiality. Non-disclosure agreements are offered for all engagements involving sensitive strategic or commercial information.
Documented Deliverables
All outputs are written, structured documents — not slide presentations. This format makes them more useful as internal reference materials after the engagement closes.
Fixed Scope and Timeline
Scope is agreed in writing before work begins. We do not expand scope without a separate agreement, and we commit to delivery within the stated timeline.
Regular Progress Check-ins
Clients receive structured updates at defined intervals during each engagement. No surprises at delivery — the direction is visible throughout.
Objective Analysis
Our recommendations are based on evidence and structured evaluation — not on what would make the engagement look favourable. Honest findings are always the output, even when they are not what clients hoped to hear.
Consulting that reflects the complexity of the work
Thornfeld operates at the intersection of strategic planning and operational reality. Our focus on innovation management, R&D portfolio oversight, and technology landscape assessment reflects the specific challenges that organisations in Malaysia face when trying to build durable competitive capacity — rather than chasing short-term trends.
The Cyberjaya and Klang Valley business environment has particular characteristics that shape our work: a mix of mature industries undergoing structural change, a growing technology sector dealing with scaling questions, and public-sector development priorities that create both opportunities and complexity for private-sector organisations. Our consulting practice is calibrated to these conditions.
Our service model is deliberately compact. Three well-defined services, each with a clear methodology and a fixed engagement duration, allow us to maintain depth rather than spreading thinly across a broader set of offerings. Clients work with experienced consultants throughout — not junior staff following a standard process.
The outputs of our engagements are intended to be useful beyond the engagement itself. An innovation ecosystem framework, a portfolio assessment report, or a technology landscape map should remain a relevant reference document for at least one to two planning cycles after delivery. We write with that utility in mind.
